Two loving hearts !!

Sitting comfortably on a blanket,
carefully spread out on moist sand.
A woman sat, arms folded around her knees,
just staring, as if surveying the land.
Gentle breeze flowing all around,
seagulls in flight and through her hair.
Slowly reaching out to hold a hand,
of one so special with such elegant flair.
Now two loving hearts transform into one,
as day turns to night and stars sparkle above.
They talked slow and softly so no one could hear,
of days long ago when young and in love.
He dreamed of traveling, seeing the world,
religions, cultures, to enrich his young life.
She was content to stroll the cool shore,
while her heart longed just to be his wife.
All the lessons learned from people he met,
and exotic cultures from far away lands.
Trinkets, beads, gold rings and pearls,
packed in a box, not to wear on his hands.
She talked quietly of all the letters saved,
each one a precious gem from history made.
Ink partially faded, tear stained, brittle,
carefully folded, in the small box laid.
Just for a little while the two stopped talking,
admiring the stars, staring at the moon.
Still holding hands, as if afraid to let go,
praying for this moment not to end too soon.
All good things they know cycle and end,
daylight would soon begin to surface and shine.
He spoke of his love, she spoke of her devotion,
after all these years they were both out of time.
As morning approached she began to stretch,
unfold her arms, tenderly kissed her wedding band.
She picked up her blanket, slowly walking away,
only one set of foot prints imprinted in the sand !!
