It’s a special occasion and you are planning to get a very romantic gift for your lover. What is the most precious romantic gift that you can gift to your Lover?
About Cupid, Love and Romance ♥ Cupid and His Arrows
Cupid is the Roman God of Love. No person in love is stranger to this mischievous cute boy armed with bow and arrows who shoots people’s hearts with his poisoned arrow to inspire romantic love. He is the Roman God of Love, son of Goddess Venus. Cupid is the most widely accepted symbol of Love and the icon of Valentine’s Day. Cupid is also known as Amor (Latin name) or Eros (in Greek mythology).
It is believed that Cupid’s arrows, which often have a heart for its tip, are very powerful. People hit by Cupid’s arrow are inspired to fall in love. This is the reason why a heart (sometimes two hearts) pierced by an arrow has become the most popular symbol of love and romance.
Cupid, Psyche and Roman Mythology ♥ Cupid and Psyche
According to the Roman Mythology, there was a very beautiful princess by the name Psyche. Psyche was so beloved for her subjects that they forgot to worship Goddess Venus. Though Psyche was a mortal woman, Venus became so jealous of Princess Psyche that she assigned her son Cupid with the task of making Psyche fall in love with the most hideous man on Earth.
Cupid reaches Psyche’s bedroom but by mistake pricks himself with the arrow, thus making him fall deeply in love with her. Venus becomes very angry over what happened between Psyche and her son Cupid. She then puts Psyche through a series of tests which Psyche completes successfully. Venus and Psyche finally forgive each other. The Gods moved by Psyche’s love for Cupid, makes her immortal and she becomes a Goddess.
Although nowadays Cupid is widely accepted as the symbol of Love and romance alone, ancient Romans believed that just the way he had the power to inspire love and romance; he also had the power to inspire hatred. Many pictures of cupid show him carrying two quivers; the arrows in one inspired love while the arrows in the other, inspired hatred.
Today, Cupid is the symbol of Love and is closely related to the events and celebration of Valentine's Day. Pictures of Cupid, the cherub wearing diaper and holding a bow and arrow is the icon of Valentine's Day.
Times have changed, people have changed but Cupid still sticks around with his bow and arrow looking out for people. Thanks to Cupid, the world is still young and romantic.
